  1. Build a movie theater complex down town.

Movies are hot! They appeal to young and old alike. They bring other businesses to the area and new clientele to the existing businesses. To have the right impact, they would have to be right downtown, not a block or two away and the closer to the MAC the better!

    • Avoid the need for multi-million dollar revitalization in East Mesa by acting now

East Mesa was as poorly planned as West Mesa, if not more so. We've already got vacant, run down buildings, code violations, empty dirt lots, and more and we don't even have age to blame for these things.

The Desert Uplands area is nice, and the Power Knowledge Corridor is very promising, but there is still a large population living between these two areas. It is time for the city to appoint a task force to examine the problems faced by the central corridor portion of East Mesa. This task force needs to then address these problems with the help…

      • The Spook Hill Mountain Preserve NW Ellsworth/Brown is being grossly littered with trash. would like to get trash receptacles.

I would like to install trash receptacles in three areas of the hill where trash is mostly being thrown in addition to some doggie bag posts. I would be willing to bring the trash bags down every few days as needed.

        • Finish paving the Eastern Canal Trail

The new bike paths that were approved are missing a 2.5 mile section that would connect 2 other existing paths resulting in a path going from Gilbert Rd & 202 all the way down to Pecos Rd in Gilbert spanning over 13 miles

The existing sections are asphalt and aren't as nice as the new stuff on the Sun Circle, but I think that's fine as long as it's all paved.

The section I'm referring to is along the Eastern Canal just North of Broadway here: https://maps.google.com/?ll=33.408406,-111.746858&spn=0.005427,0.008256&t=w&z=18

          • Comprehensive Branding for Downtown Mesa and the surrounding area.

            Design is important!
Possibly one of the biggest intellectual hurdles we have in Mesa is coming around to equating Design with Communication. It appears that design is still only considered for the purposes of decoration or self-expression, like “Art” or Crafts/Hobbies, and ultimately an afterthought.
Corporations and municipalities use the Branding process ( and Design) to communicate succinctly with other communities, businesses, and potential clients/residents. Design is used to communicate consistently across all media:“This is who we are, this is what we have to offer”.

While much of what makes Mesa interesting is the way in which it has evolved…

              • Offer Recreation Programs in West Mesa

Schedule recreation programs in west Mesa and during evening hours. I feel like I have to go to Tempe or Chandler if I want my kids to participate in any extra programs. Driving 20 minutes to Red Mountain for a 30-minute class is a waste! For swim classes, there are none in west Mesa in the evening.

                • Halfway houses

Regardless of what you might be told, halfways houses breed crime. At this time there are no restrictions on them. Place more strict guidelines on them to spread them out or get rid of them. And get them away from areas that are really suffering from them.

                  • Brand Mesa as "The Most Wired City in Arizona"

Then work diligently to make it true. Maybe contact Cox or Quest and work out a co-branding solution where they put up the initial cost and get naming rights in exchange.

                      • A Great Place to Raise Your Family

Mesa has a lot to offer families, but needs to offer more budget friendly activities. Splash pads in parks, a Mesa Museum pass, family night on Main St. are just a few thoughts.

                        • Cater to MCC. We have a great college but few places that cater to its students

I'm talking college dorms, movie theaters, music stores, some dance clubs, a music venue, billiards... Whatever places students shop and keep them w/in the district. Give it to the students and let the retirees have the rest of Mesa.

                          • Offer an alternative to HOAs

Currently, there are tens of thousands of Mesa residents paying money to outside companies to provide services they should not have to look elsewhere for:

                            Examples are:

                            1) Code enforcement: Most of the HOA bylaws people pay $100/month to have enforced are already part of the city's code. Cars on blocks, tall weeds, and paint peeling are all examples of code violations people pay HOAs to enforce.

                            2) Common area maintenance (parks, retention basins, private streets): People pay an inordinate amount of money to hire landscapers to control weeds in common areas. The city already has a huge contract to…

                                • barter

I want to recommend that the City either a., join a barter network, or b., create one of their own.

The reason I thought of this is because I belong to a barter network of over 1,000 business. We barter our products and services on a regular basis. It’s a huge win win for all of us and this is how I think it would benefit the City.

                                  1. The City has available services or products that are not being purchased or used at their maximum capacity i.e., office spaces are not 100% rented in the incubator. So as long…

                                  • Walkability Study

People who live in walkable communities are more socially engaged and trusting than those who live in less walkable areas, says a new study from the University of New Hampshire.

The study buttresses other research that has linked a neighborhood's walkability to its residents' quality of life, notably improved physical and mental health.

San Francisco, which WalkScore.com has rated as the most walkable U.S. city.

The researchers scored 700 residents of three communities in New Hampshire on measures of "social capital" such as socializing with friends, civic engagement and trust in their community. They found those in neighborhoods with higher…
