Fiesta District - Mixed Use Entertainment Complex
A mixed use entertainment complex consisting of about 5,000-6,000 seats should be developed within the Fiesta District. This facility could house a minor league sports franchise (i.e. hockey, indoor soccer, etc.), be used by Mesa Community College and Mesa Public Schools or other higher education providers for games, tournaments, and events, and/or provide a venue for concerts or Disney on Ice type events for East Valley residents.

Add splash pads at City parks.
I work for the Parks and Recreation Dept. and we receive lots of requests for these. Would enhance the parks and bring more people out to enjoy them.

Public Open Space and Natural Areas
The city owns a few pieces of property in northeast Mesa that are supposed to turn into parks some day. Why can't they be opened now as natural areas with trails? Maybe sometime in the future, they can build an environmental education center to teach people more about the desert environment.

Underground all of the power lines in the City of Mesa electric service area.
Over time, set aside money and coordinate other development and infrastructure projects so all of the power lines in the older part of Mesa that is served by City of Mesa utilities are put underground. Figure out how to do SRP too.
43 votesThis concept will be assesed for technological and economic feasibility perspectives, level of customer preference, and possible funding sources beyond the electric utility program.

Businesses should be able to file and pay sales tax online. Saves time and money.
This would save time and money. AZDOR has this. Improves accuracy by automatically calculating. Electronic copies can be saved to reduce paper waste. Could save more money from payers opting out of forms being mailed to them.
48 votesFunding model is under development. Working with Mesa Chamber of Commerce and business community to get feedback on value of this type of system.

BMX Park.
Utilize some of the undeveloped land in East Mesa example Signal Butte/Crismon/ or even by Red Mountain Park as a BMX track, bike park for kids. If you build it they will come. Private land owners and HOA's are taking steps to keep kids from building jumps on their land, leaving kids to modify where they ride & jump to include the streets. By helping kids have a safe place to ride, jump & yes show off, they will go there instead. For anyone who may disagree just remember the days when you were a kid and going to dirt…

Bike Trail Rest Areas
Bike trail rest areas
A piece of shade and some water for bikers
Benefits to Mesa:
a. This will bring a better quality of life to Mesa residents
b. This idea can help to create a shift in perception of Mesa as a “hip, green” city.
c. This idea can promote some new small businesses to open next to rest areas. (Specialty bike shops, restaurants, refreshment stands)
d. Certain rest areas can be developed into small park style rest areas with coin-op facilities. (coin-op misters, restrooms?)9 votesYou’ve imagined, now it’s time to invest and improve! "Gates" by the entrance/exit to downtown Mesa
Not as in the kind that close, but rather like, say, in San Francisco where they have a visual cue that you are entering Chinatown. It might help to differentiate the used car lots from the real downtown.

Create a trailhead where the CAP Canal Crosses Bush Highway
Several trail meet at this location, but there is no parking, rest rooms or a way to safely cross bush highway. Trails include the planned Maricopa Trail along the CAP Canal and south along the Red Mountain Freeway, a proposed trail along the south side of the Southern Canal, the Hawes Loop Trail Complex in the Tonto National Forest north of Las Sendas, a planned connector trail to the Usery Mountain Regional Park and any trails in the VaShly'ay Akimel Restoration of the Salt River. A formal trailhead here would be a great recreational asset for the entire East Valley.

Modify the trash pickup procedure
By having all residents put their dumpsters on the same side of the street tens of thousands of dollars could be saved in fuel costs, man hours, vehicle maintenance, wear and tear on residential streets, noise and air pollution and the list could go on and on. This simple change would cost the city absolutely 0 dollars at the same time save 10,000's
44 votesCurrently the Solid Waste Management Department has single-sided collection in all mobile home communities. This type of service requires all barrels to be rolled to one side of the street for collection, therefore minimizing the number of times the collection vehicle drives on the street. The success of this service requires partnership and support from the Property Management and/or Property Owners. The ideal candidate for single-sided collection service is a community with narrow streets and minimal to no parking on the streets such as townhouses. Several of these communities are currently under evaluation for the feasibility of changing to this service.

What if.....
Mesa has alot of great parks, but what if we were to develop a park or two that really 'draws' people/families to the area, such as Encanto Park in Phoenix or McCormick Ranch Railroad Park? Food vendors, possible rides for children, etc. Nothing on a large scale like a theme park, but 'right-sized' friendly.

Improve Mesa's Parks
Mesa's parks are looking dingy and old, especially in west Mesa. We should start upgrading them with more exciting and shaded playgrounds, more youth ballfields, greener fields in the winter (overseeding), mountain bike tracks, more skate parks/plazas, and adding recycling. Make the parks places that neighborhoods are proud to embrace. Add more park rangers to help keep an eye on the parks so they are safer places to be in the evenings.
