  1. 'Ellsworth and McKellips Park Proposal Is Wrong in So Many Ways!!!!!!!!'

The proposed park at this location is unacceptable for several reasons. 1. It duplicates services available within 1 to 4 miles; it violates the City of Mesa planning guidelines for the community of Desert Uplands and 3. it creates a source of light pollution and trespass which will disrupt animal behavior and potentially increase invasion of predatory animals in our residential areas. .

The City of Mesa has recognized that there are several neighborhoods which are characterized by their proximity to the natural desert. The proposed park at Ellsworth and McKellips is located within one of these areas - the…

    • Ellsworth and McKellips Park Proposal

The plan to create a water retention area at this location threatens to sabotage a fragile ecosystem as well as the zoning guidelines established by the City of Mesa. It will destroy this unique, sensitive and diverse ecosystem. The City of Mesa was farsighted when it created the desert uplands design. Natural wash corridors and associated vegetation should be preserved as open space amenities and wildlife habitat corridors. I chose Desert Uplands because its zoning assured that the desert environment would be preserved.

      • Any development of native desert land must be preceded by a thorough assessment of the ecological issues.

The creation of more recreation areas must be done in a manner that does not take away more than it gives to the community. We must be assured that any proposal includes an thorough environmental impact statement that looks at the potential for light pollution and light trespass; as well as the impact of the introduction of large areas of turf.on the desert uplands. Finally, it must identify the impact on local wildlife and assess if it would alter predatory animal behaviors.

                  • Mobile Home/RV Parks

My suggestion is to coordinate a land swap of some of the Mobile Home/RV Park owners in east Mesa and the city of Mesa. The amount of Mobile home Parks in the east part of Mesa (roughly between Gilbert Road and Power Road and between US 60 and McKellips Road) is mind boggling.

Most of these residents are part time residents and lower income residents who generally don't have a lot to contribute to the local economy. A lot of businesses will not open in some of these areas, because there is not enough disposable income, nor are there enough…

                    • Turn Spook Hill Preserve into a mountain park

Spook Hill Preserve on the NE corner of Brown and Ellsworth is the last hill property in Mesa with views of the mountains surrounding the valley, great sunset/sunrise views, and is frequently used by runners and walkers. Depressed property values make this a great time to set aside the hill for area residents.

This is a high use park with a great deal of social activity. Many older and handicapped users who would greatly benefit from the shade and opportunity to plug in a coffee urn while their dogs cavort.

                          • Create a traffic free lightrail accessable pedestrian zone downtown

Route auto traffic around downtown via 1st Ave from Country Club Drive to Mesa Drive. (Parking is available there to encourage drivers to stop and shop) Close that section of Main Street to all but lightrail (some delivery vehicles may be permitted one or two mornings per week before 10am) Promote downtown Mesa as a "destination" for a pleasant lightrail experience - we have the MAC, some restaurants, sculptures and antiques now but we need to add a micro-brewery (or two) a jazz spot, a kid's activity area, a burger or BBQ joint, a couple art galleries, an old fashioned…

                            • Build a dog park at Red Mountain Park in east Mesa.

Currently there are no dog parks east of Greenfield and the 202 to the north and one at Southern. Dog lovers from as far east as Gold Canyon make the drive to these parks so their four legged friends can enjoy a good run and soscialize with others. While it is enjoyable to walk around the fishing lake on the path, it would be so much better to run free untethered.

                              • Pioneer Park: Aviary + public art collection similar to what is being done in Fountain Hills and other places throughout the US.

Aviary at Pioneer Park sounds great but believe that in addition a public art collection would be a tremendous draw and enhance Mesa's cultural diversity. A Public Art Committee could be formed to solicit donations/pieces of art for placement in park. City's only cost would be insurance and dedication plaques. It would build over the years and I believe become a "go to" place in Mesa.

                                • Gate all unused alley ways

Gate all the alley ways that are no longer in use (formally used for garabage pick up). This helps to cut down on graffiti on the fences, people driving in them and using them to do drugs or other illicit activites, cuts down on foot traffic as well and people using the alley as a dumping ground.
There are programs out there for this idea, I have seen in it in use in my neighborhood. Would be great to have this city wide.

                                  • Enhancement to MyMesa Smartphone App

The MyMesa smartphone app is great for reporting & photographing graffiti, etc, but it would be nice if we could add the ability to photograph & report city code violations to code enforcement too.
It is much easier to snap a quick picture & enter an address & select a violation type, than to try to remember to enter the details once home.

                                    • Dog rinsing station

I believe that most dog owners would be willing to pay a small fee to rinse/dry their pet after play time at the dog park. I frequently visit the park with our dog and there are times I don't want to put her in our vehicle because of the dust/slobber/mud acquired during our visit. It would be great to have the capability to give a quick rinse and dry before entering our vehicle. Soap wouldn't be required, just the capability to have a "quick rinse" and dry (with a towel from home) would be all that would be needed.

                                      • Build a dog park at Heritage Park.

We have many dog owners in the community that would love to have a place for our dogs. It is such a large space if built at the west end of the park it would leave probably use less than 30% and create a multi-use park. Three sides of the fencing is already there along with parking. The one side of fencing, a double gate, some trash cans, a spigot for water and a couple of benches is all that it would take!

                                        • Buckhorn baths

After a trip to Ireland we stopped at a row of cottages that had artist and marketers that were creating and making various crafts and art objects. The Buckhorn is a perfect set up for this as it has the minimal room, the bathroom, power for shops and crafts ( altho some electrical may have to be updated)parking, the place for a dayspa, I purchased an umbrella (silk with Irish mods, ceramic jewelry from a ceramic working on site and photo gift cards. All working from their shops. The tour busses stopped there regularly, 2 while we were there, and…
