Add Green Turn Arrows to Traffic Light at Brown Road and 72nd Street
Add green turn arrows to traffic light at Brown Road and 72nd Street (Red Mountain High School) to improve traffic movement and driver/pedestrian safety. Perhaps these arrows could be programmed to function only during the morning and afternoon peak traffic hours on school days.

Improve Signage Noting of Hospitals on Freeways
Improve signage noting of hospitals on U.S. 60 and 101 and 202 Freeways. At logical freeway exit points, signs should indicate direction to turn and distance to the hospital. Perhaps a partnership with ADOT could make this happen

Redesign Entrances and Exits on Northeast Corner of Greenfield and Main
Work with property owners/tenants at the northeast corner of Greenfield and Main to redesign entrances and exits to these properties. Present arrangement forces exiting traffic to go west (Main) and north (Greenfield). Many people do a U-turn to go east at Greenfield and Main, which creates hazards. Traffic backups and general traffic congestion sometimes triggers poor driver behavior.

Install More Bus Pullouts and Right Turn Lanes
Improve street traffic flow by installing bus pullouts at all intersections and add rights hand turn lanes at all major (mile and half-mile) intersections. This can be done during other street improvements.

Adopt Fiesta District Signage & Boulevard Plantings
Consider adopting Fiesta District signage & boulevard plantings idea at other significant commercial/retail nodes within the city to create a unique sense of place. To avoid diluting the effect and to control expenses, the city should propose no more than about a half dozen of the most intense clusters of commerce.

Build a Terrace at Heritage Park for a Community Garden
Build a terrace at Heritage Park for a community garden. However, still maintain the pathways throughout the park. Then, place the garden beds above the 100 year flood elevation. This will reduce maintenance needs, generate revenue and save water.

Use of a Rain Gauge to Save Water and Cut Electric Costs
Install rain gauges with sensors at parks and other city maintained areas that send out a signal to a centrally located computer to determine water needs. In addition to this, run home systems through SRP. This will save water and cut electric costs.

Disc (frisbee) golf parks
Mesa needs more disc (frisbee) golf parks. It is very inexpensive to add to the parks and is a cheap, fun and family friendly exercise. Mesa has one park now on Harris, but it is becoming very crowded. It is a growing sport and would be simple and fun way to bring people to Mesa.

Designate Mesa Restaurant Week
Thanks to Mesa's cultural diversity, we have amazing restaurants. Mexican, Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, pasties, Native American cuisine... we're the best-kept secret in the Valley. Let's not be! Foodies should discover Mesa and spend their money at our local dining establishments. If we had a Restaurant Week promoted through Facebook, inexpensive maps and a media event with participating retailers, we'd have a foodie invasion on our hands, and many return visitors later.

Build a dorm at MCC
A number of community colleges around the country are adding student housing. Beyond helping MCC, building a dorm would create a population that would support businesses in the Fiesta District. Google "community college dorms" for examples of what is happening elsewhere, but one article that discusses the rationale for dorms is:

Change left turn signals to lagging left, its safer!
You are less likely to pull out in front a vehicle that is oncoming, opposed to the two sides. I have driven all over the valley for years and noticed less intersection accidents in Scottsdale and Gilbert who have lagging left turn signals. Especially in the winter months. A lot of older folks have tunnel vision but are still able to drive. This also allows the turnlanes to fill up moving more traffic per signal.

East Mesa - Hot Air Balloon Event
East Mesa should capitalize on the superstition background and create a event where all arizonans can enjoy Hot Air Balloon Event. Away from the city, Great panaromic view of supersitition mountain and Phoenix city of lights on the other. City of Mesa can get some sales tax out of this event from locals and snowbirds alike,

Alley annexation
Annex all alleys over to the property owners making them financially responsible for the upkeep of the alleys. Once that happens valuable volunteer resources could be put to better use. Why should the community continue to foot the bill when many of the alley waste is the resdients disposing of items themselves or not caring enough to clear vegetation from behind homes. Maybe if they were allowed to expand the property line or block them off completely our illegal activity & homeless situation may improve as well as the feeling of being safe.
When does any of this illegal…2 votes
