Bring the Mining and Mineral Museum to Downtown Mesa
The Mining and Mineral Museum that was self sufficient was closed in Phoenix this past weekend. Let's bring it to the old Federal Building on MacDonald north of Main. An article in the Az Republic stated that it is the busiest museum in the state! Three for free is nice but how about one more for four!

Create a traffic free lightrail accessable pedestrian zone downtown
Route auto traffic around downtown via 1st Ave from Country Club Drive to Mesa Drive. (Parking is available there to encourage drivers to stop and shop) Close that section of Main Street to all but lightrail (some delivery vehicles may be permitted one or two mornings per week before 10am) Promote downtown Mesa as a "destination" for a pleasant lightrail experience - we have the MAC, some restaurants, sculptures and antiques now but we need to add a micro-brewery (or two) a jazz spot, a kid's activity area, a burger or BBQ joint, a couple art galleries, an old fashioned…

Build a Terrace at Heritage Park for a Community Garden
Build a terrace at Heritage Park for a community garden. However, still maintain the pathways throughout the park. Then, place the garden beds above the 100 year flood elevation. This will reduce maintenance needs, generate revenue and save water.

Redesign Entrances and Exits on Northeast Corner of Greenfield and Main
Work with property owners/tenants at the northeast corner of Greenfield and Main to redesign entrances and exits to these properties. Present arrangement forces exiting traffic to go west (Main) and north (Greenfield). Many people do a U-turn to go east at Greenfield and Main, which creates hazards. Traffic backups and general traffic congestion sometimes triggers poor driver behavior.

Downtown, BORING...Mesa...BORING and behind the times...MESA getting uglier by the minute
downtown has potential, but nothing makes you want to go there. You need to attract people with interesting things to do, see, experience. A place to wander and enjoy. Cafes, specialty shops (antique stores a start), artists, local sit and listen musicians (jazz, blues etc.) small weekend local artist only craft fairs, coffee shops, brewery, etc. Get rid of the boring businesses, and give the landlords incentives to fill up these empty spaces and create jobs.(think San Antonio riverwalk) Actually, there are so many empty big boxes and retail shops in Mesa..an incentive program for reasonable rents, etc. would be nice)As…

Rethink extending the light rail.
Route the light rail down Dobson to Southern servicing the Fiesta district. Along Southern to Gilbert or Power then back north to Main and returning westbound on Main. There are several reasons to do this one to serve the Feista District and having only one line returning thru Main Street. This would also reduce the congestion thru Mesa.

Flashing yellow lights for all school crossings on major streets, especially Center St for Eisenhower Elementary School
Yellow flashing lights on Brown Road near Mountain View High, Red Mountain High, Salk Elementary and Mesa Academy are very helpful in slowing traffic. Yellow flashing lights should be installed at all school crossings on major streets. Center Street north of Fitch Park urgently needs flashing yellow lights because the school crossing signs are easily confused with special event signs set out for spring baseball. Until yellow flashing lights are installed, school crossing signs should be set out for each lane since traffic can block visibility of a single sign in the center of the street.

Pioneer Park: Aviary + public art collection similar to what is being done in Fountain Hills and other places throughout the US.
Aviary at Pioneer Park sounds great but believe that in addition a public art collection would be a tremendous draw and enhance Mesa's cultural diversity. A Public Art Committee could be formed to solicit donations/pieces of art for placement in park. City's only cost would be insurance and dedication plaques. It would build over the years and I believe become a "go to" place in Mesa.

How about Mesa'a own Railoroad Park?
McCormick-Stillman RR Park is nice but there is room for more train parks. With the effort to save the Pioneer Park train that train could be the center point of the park. As a member of the Arizona Big Train Operators we would be very interested in building and operating a large scale train layout in a Railroad themed park in Mesa. I know other model railroaders that would form clubs to be at a Mesa Park if they had a chance. How about one at Falcon Field?

Land Transformation (SW corner Mesa Dr. and Univeristy) -Weeds and Dirty to Productive Vegetable Crops
Lease the vacant property to a local farmer for a $1.00 under the condition productive vegetable crops are grown three times a year. The land is an eye sore full of weeds and dust and needs to be but to use until it has been sold or developed.
I would prefer to see green fields of crops over dusty dirt and weeds.

Water Fountains Downtown
As a public amenity improvement, the city or maybe even private owners should consider placing several water fountains alone the downtown pedestrian corridor.

Electric shuttles btwn city buildings downtown
Save fuel and promote clean air in downtown by providing electric cart shuttles for Mesa City employees to move between buildings for meetings. Electric golf carts could be driven and operated by AmeriCorps volunteers or retirees looking for ways to volunteer and be involved and used to shuttle city employees between buildings such as Solid Waste and MCP.

Create a Neon Corridor
While driving past the newly refurbished Diver sign and the Starlight Motel, I was wondering if the City would want to offer incentives for business to use neon signage and create a tourist attraction of a "neon corridor"? People line up to see holiday lights at Christmas time so would it attract tourists?
