Build a movie theater complex down town.
Movies are hot! They appeal to young and old alike. They bring other businesses to the area and new clientele to the existing businesses. To have the right impact, they would have to be right downtown, not a block or two away and the closer to the MAC the better!

Avoid the need for multi-million dollar revitalization in East Mesa by acting now
East Mesa was as poorly planned as West Mesa, if not more so. We've already got vacant, run down buildings, code violations, empty dirt lots, and more and we don't even have age to blame for these things.
The Desert Uplands area is nice, and the Power Knowledge Corridor is very promising, but there is still a large population living between these two areas. It is time for the city to appoint a task force to examine the problems faced by the central corridor portion of East Mesa. This task force needs to then address these problems with the help…

Comprehensive Branding for Downtown Mesa and the surrounding area.
Design is important!
Possibly one of the biggest intellectual hurdles we have in Mesa is coming around to equating Design with Communication. It appears that design is still only considered for the purposes of decoration or self-expression, like “Art” or Crafts/Hobbies, and ultimately an afterthought.
Corporations and municipalities use the Branding process ( and Design) to communicate succinctly with other communities, businesses, and potential clients/residents. Strict inforcement of Paint Colors for Downtown Buildings
Get rid of the orange, bright green, yellow on buildings on Main Street. It is so cheap-looking. Drive through Scottsdale, their muted tones on buildings are so refreshing to look at, makes you want to stop...Not Mesa...Stricter codes for Mesa...same with apartment buildings...

Put a Starbucks in Downtown Mesa on Main St.
Starbucks is a staple in every major city. With the Arts Center downtown, it is a great way to get patrons to walk for coffee before or after a show. This will help generate revenue for Mesa.

Bring in an Anchor store, LL Bean's is a destination store, if located near new rail, bringstraffic
LL Bean is a destination store, it would bring in traffic and other businesses wanting to be near it. The downtown would be upgraded and attract many new stores. If it is located near the new rail, its an attraction to people in other cities.

Routew the new light rail around downtown at country club going 1 way down 1st street and the other down 1st ave, and joining back up at mesa Drive. This will preserve all the new businesses just starting up downtown, and allow for more development downtown and a better traffic situation there for the next 3 years.
