preserve art icons at Mesa Junior
Mesa Junior High School, soon to be torn down because of the economy, has 3 historic cultural icons that need to be preserved and relocated. They are the mosic in the student cafeteria, and the weaving and needlepoint in the media center. Created in the '70 & '80's by hundreds of Mesa students, these are large murals masterfully crafted pieces of art. Proud parents that have attended the school and help create them have brought back their children to view their beauty for many years, it would be ashame if they were lost with the school.

New stipulations regarding retail projects
I am putting this in the Riverview section because it is clearly a problem that Riverview has highlighted.
It is not beneficial for the City of Mesa to move retail outlets from a struggling location in the city (Downtown, Fiesta) into an area which has received, and will receive, hundreds of millions of dollars in public and private investment. Several storefronts now sit empty because storeowners moved to Riverview and away from Fiesta or Downtown.
Future public expenditures should clearly spell out in the contract the amount of retail ventures which can relocate from other areas of the city. It…

Create a smartphone app, similar to "SmartPHX" to help people discover downtown Mesa
Digital media students at ASU recently created "SmartPHX," which is a smartphone app that helps people find things to do in Downtown Phoenix.
It uses geolocation to help people navigate, lets people know what businesses are open or closed, and even helps people find parking.
With all of the worry about how light rail is going to affect downtown, can we really afford not to have this? Some of the biggest concerns I've seen are:
1) People won't know about parking in back of the shops.
2) Restricting traffic means people won't get to see as many store fronts, and…

Use the existing old alley space to install solar panels and power City of Mesa Utility customers
Partner with the new solar company planned for the proving grounds and have them install solar panels in the old alleys throughout the older part of the City. This would reduce the electric costs for the City of Mesa Utitlity customers and be environmentally friendly.

Connect Wrigleyville to Mill Ave via a Shuttle during peak vacation season
People on vacation want new experiences, and the freedom to enjoy themselves without the risk of DUI, crowded parking, vehicle theft, etc..( Downtown Denver has a similar service, and it works great.)
During spring training here in AZ, this service would allow the Tempe/Mesa area to become a distinct entertainment destination. Together we have everything right here, for every age group!

More Houses of the Lord in Heaven
Build more non-denominational Christian churches to help clean up Mesa spiritually and to fix it's image. The Lord in Heaven is the only way.

Improve Mesa's Parks
Mesa's parks are looking dingy and old, especially in west Mesa. We should start upgrading them with more exciting and shaded playgrounds, more youth ballfields, greener fields in the winter (overseeding), mountain bike tracks, more skate parks/plazas, and adding recycling. Make the parks places that neighborhoods are proud to embrace. Add more park rangers to help keep an eye on the parks so they are safer places to be in the evenings.

Arizona has no Veterinary colleges how about opening one in Mesa
Veterinary College is more competitive than medical school. In west mesa we have plenty of open space and a community college already in the area. Why not repurpose the land around Southern and Alma School with a veterinary college?

Educational farm with Horse Rides for children as part of the Farmers Market in Downtown Mesa.
Part of Mesa's history is a connection to the land and agriculture. Today there are free standing farms and empty parcels of land close to Downtown Mesa. The Downtown Mesa Farmer's Market could be the largest in the valley, with accompanying attractions that celebrate the unique character of Mesa Grande. An integral part of agriculture in Mesa Grande has been the existence of prehistoric irrigation canals and their unique history, including the Mormon Pioneers that reinvigorated them to settle this valley.
People complain that we need to manufacture a culture for Downtown Mesa, but it already exists. It just needs…

Build a movie theater complex down town.
Movies are hot! They appeal to young and old alike. They bring other businesses to the area and new clientele to the existing businesses. To have the right impact, they would have to be right downtown, not a block or two away and the closer to the MAC the better!

Stick to residential densities approved by previous council actions.
Do not allow increases to previously approved hard zoning densities regardless of the reason for the request.

Paint large, glow-in-the-dark address numbers on the curb in front of every house
Have volunteer groups paint uniform, easy to see, glow-in-the-dark address numbers on the curb in front of every home in Mesa. It would help emergency personnel, delivery businesses and everyone trying to locate an address in our city. In many older neighborhoods it's especially difficult to find house numbers.

BMX Park.
Utilize some of the undeveloped land in East Mesa example Signal Butte/Crismon/ or even by Red Mountain Park as a BMX track, bike park for kids. If you build it they will come. Private land owners and HOA's are taking steps to keep kids from building jumps on their land, leaving kids to modify where they ride & jump to include the streets. By helping kids have a safe place to ride, jump & yes show off, they will go there instead. For anyone who may disagree just remember the days when you were a kid and going to dirt…

handicapped accessibility at Mesa City Plaza
The Mesa City Plaza building has two doors that need to be converted to handicapped accessible doors: the entry door on the south end of the main lobby (that leads to Main Street); and the door inside the lobby that leads to the hallway to the City Clerk's office, Conference Room 170, & the public restrooms. These doors are currently impossible for those confined to wheelchairs to open by themselves, and if they try to do so and fall or get hurt it could very easily turn in to a lose-lose situation.
9 votesThe City of Mesa is working to improve handicap accessibility at this location. Work is underway. An update will be provided soon when complete. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Avoid the need for multi-million dollar revitalization in East Mesa by acting now
East Mesa was as poorly planned as West Mesa, if not more so. We've already got vacant, run down buildings, code violations, empty dirt lots, and more and we don't even have age to blame for these things.
The Desert Uplands area is nice, and the Power Knowledge Corridor is very promising, but there is still a large population living between these two areas. It is time for the city to appoint a task force to examine the problems faced by the central corridor portion of East Mesa. This task force needs to then address these problems with the help…
