Fiesta Lakes is a new concept on a property that was initially developed as a 9-hole executive golf course in 1978 in the expanding Fiesta area of Mesa, Arizona.
Fiesta Lakes will be the first of its kind to combine a casual American beach tapas restaurant and bar, ten sand volleyball courts, a par 29 executive golf course, 18-hole Disc golf course, driving range, 2 championship bocce ball courts, and other active outdoor sports into a fun and inviting atmosphere that will attract and serve as a destination location for many patrons throughout the Phoenix Metro area providing a relaxed and entertaining environment where people can have a different experience each night of the week, including a farmers market on Sunday mornings and a driving range that can host larger events throughout the year.

“Fiesta Lakes’ ten volleyball courts will provide year round access to the finest sand volleyball facilities in Arizona for individuals and teams to participate in leagues, tournaments and clinics. These professional grade courts will not only allow Fiesta Lakes to host the highest number of leagues and tournaments in Arizona, but will also offer flexibility to introduce other sports such as sand tennis, sand dodgeball, sand soccer, horseshoes, baggo, and other sand sports,” says Allen Alexander, Director, of The Sand Club and one of the co-founders of Fiesta Lakes.

While the schedule will differ by day and season, the Company expects seniors to generally participate during the morning hours, kids and teenagers in the afternoons after school, and adults to play in night leagues. Fiesta Lakes will have a sports participation opportunity for anybody that simply wants to stay fit and active and have a great time doing so.

Light rail will be operating in Downtown Mesa in the next 4-1/2 to 5 years, which means a direct connection with ASU and Downtown Phoenix. Living in Downtown Mesa will become a viable option for ASU students who don’t want to live in Tempe among all the “kids”, and for those who work in Downtown Phoenix but don’t want to live down there. Downtown Mesa already has an Arts culture, and over the last 2-1/2 years, a night life is starting to immerge. Downtown Mesa can be a grownups playground, not as immature as Tempe, more sophisticated than Phoenix, but not snooty like Scottsdale. There’s a lot of work to be done, but a lot can happen in 5 years!

The modified park proposal for this location has begun the process of making this proposal into an extraordinary park for several reasons.
1. It provides access to a beautiful native desert
2 it avoids duplication of service that are located within 1-3 miles.

A few more changes are needed to assure that this park protects the Sonoran desert it hopes to showcase. The park must be configured to meet the guidelines of the Desert Uplands and to assure that it can accommodate all individuals.

I am suggesting that
1. Trails width should be limited to 5 feet with an occasional bump out to accommodate interpretive signs
2. The lighting of the trails and the parking area should be low profile similar to what was used the award winning Red Mountain campus.
3. The parking area should be built out in two phases - the first 30 spots in Phase one and the last 36 spaces in Phase 2. The latter would only occur if there was sufficient demand for the expanded parking.
4. The park should use existing native planting or approved native plantings to assure that it retains the desert milieu. Turf should not be permitted since it requires significant water (the park is showcasing the desert) as well as ongoing maintenance.
