  1. Fiesta Lakes to Become New Valley Destination Hotspot -Mesa needs this now more than ever to drastically improve the Fiesta District.

Show the City of Mesa that you support this endeavor by clicking vote on the left and giving us all three of them right now.

Fiesta Lakes is a new concept on a property that was initially developed as a 9-hole executive golf course in 1978 in the expanding Fiesta area of Mesa, Arizona.
Fiesta Lakes will be the first of its kind to combine a casual American beach tapas restaurant and bar, ten sand volleyball courts, a par 29 executive golf course, 18-hole Disc golf course, driving range, 2 championship bocce ball courts, and other active outdoor sports into…

    • Save the BUCKHORN BATHS. The plan proposed by the Mesa Preservation Foundation

Let's work to save the BUCKHORN BATHS -- one of Mesa's greatest historical treasures. The plan proposed by the Mesa Preservation Foundation is an ideal model for a private / public partnership.

      • Fix the corner of Southern and Alma School. It's the anchor of urban blight in the city.

What can our local Government do about it? Well, let's find out.

        • A downtown place to tell Mesa's story

Let’s celebrate Mesa’s story and strengthen the emerging downtown arts and cultural district by renovating the city-owned historic Federal Building at 26 N. Macdonald Street. By making it the downtown home of the Mesa Historical Museum, residents can more easily learn how their city came to be and how the past is shaping the future.

The City of Mesa has contracted with Ron Peters of HistoricStreetscapes and Vince Di Bella of Sameish + Di Bella Architects to do the renovation of the Federal Building in downtown Mesa. When completed in summer 2015, the Federal Building will house the Mesa Historical Museum and sections of the Arizona Museum of Natural History.

          • Fiesta District - Mixed Use Entertainment Complex

A mixed use entertainment complex consisting of about 5,000-6,000 seats should be developed within the Fiesta District. This facility could house a minor league sports franchise (i.e. hockey, indoor soccer, etc.), be used by Mesa Community College and Mesa Public Schools or other higher education providers for games, tournaments, and events, and/or provide a venue for concerts or Disney on Ice type events for East Valley residents.

            • Evening entertainment

Allow or cultivate a night life downtown. I just came from visiting a small town in California that has a really cool night life in the downtown area. Bars, restaurants, live bands, but quality, not quantity.

Downtown Mesa has been growing its nightlife over the last few years with several great venues for arts, entertainment and live music. The Mesa Arts Center and its five theaters schedule a plethora of arts and entertainment throughout the year. The Nile Theater and Underground have live music weekly featuring both regional and national acts. Many of the clubs and restaurants feature live bands, DJ’s and open mic nights – Monsterland Bar and Grill, De la Cruz Bistro, Lo-Fi Coffee and Kirks Sports Grill to name a few. Live music is a staple at all the downtown events including the monthly series Motorcycles on Main and 2nd Friday Out. This Saturday’s Mesa Rocks Block Party features six bands featuring national reggae recording artists IRATION.

                  • Fiesta District - Streetscape

Implement the streetscape improvements discussed in the Fiesta District Handbook, which incorporated input from area businesses and residents. The Fiesta District needs to have streetscape improvements that define a sense of place for the district. These improvements should include wider sidewalks, more open space to create opportunities for community gathering and activity, more landscaping and better lighting.

The Southern Avenue Streetscape Improvements project is the first project from the City of Mesa’s Fiesta District Implementation Plan along Southern Avenue. The improvements will create a uniquely identifiable area for Mesa that is economically vibrant, pedestrian friendly and an active urban destination. The project is scheduled to begin in April 2013 and is anticipated to be completed in the spring of 2014. This project will transition Southern Avenue to four through lanes (two in each direction) from east of Dobson Road to Alma School Road. Other improvements include wider sidewalks and landscaping behind the new curbs. New amenities will be installed, which include benches, street lighting, pedestrian lighting, trash cans, bike racks and traffic signals. Colored paving enhancements will be constructed at the intersections of Southern and Alma School, Southern and Stewart and Southern and Longmore. Vibrant monument entry signs will be constructed at the intersections of Alma School…

                      • Create High Density Living in Downtown by Encouraging Construction of More Mid/High Rise Buildings

Light rail will be operating in Downtown Mesa in the next 4-1/2 to 5 years, which means a direct connection with ASU and Downtown Phoenix. Living in Downtown Mesa will become a viable option for ASU students who don’t want to live in Tempe among all the “kids”, and for those who work in Downtown Phoenix but don’t want to live down there. Downtown Mesa already has an Arts culture, and over the last 2-1/2 years, a night life is starting to immerge. Downtown Mesa can be a grownups playground, not as immature as Tempe, more sophisticated than Phoenix, but…

                        • Create better riding paths.

Currently the only places in the phx metro area to ride a bicycle more then a mile without stopping is the greenbelt in Scottsdale, or the long roads on the reservations. The canals can be better. Take the Santa Ana River in so-Cal as an example. LONG paths that go for miles.

                              • The Modified Ellsworth and Mckellips Park Plan is now SO MUCH BETTER!!!!!

The modified park proposal for this location has begun the process of making this proposal into an extraordinary park for several reasons.
                                1. It provides access to a beautiful native desert
2 it avoids duplication of service that are located within 1-3 miles.

A few more changes are needed to assure that this park protects the Sonoran desert it hopes to showcase. The park must be configured to meet the guidelines of the Desert Uplands and to assure that it can accommodate all individuals.

                                I am suggesting that
                                1. Trails width should be limited to 5 feet with an occasional…

                                • Build a dog park at Red Mountain Park in east Mesa.

Currently there are no dog parks east of Greenfield and the 202 to the north and one at Southern. Dog lovers from as far east as Gold Canyon make the drive to these parks so their four legged friends can enjoy a good run and soscialize with others. While it is enjoyable to walk around the fishing lake on the path, it would be so much better to run free untethered.

How about a spot like Quail Run that provides little league, softball and soccer fields in one location.

                                    • ASU Polytechnic campus as an Independent State University

Check out my website which advocates restructuring the Arizona University System to provide greater accessibility, affordability, and accountability to a public university education for many more Arizonans while breaking-up the ASU monopoly within Greater Phoenix.

My plan does this by merging the ASU West & Polytechnic campuses into an independent, "medium-cost", and moderate research state university that is then housed at the Polytechnic campus location while the West campus then transforms itself into an independent, "low-cost", and non-research state university.

Click on the link below to view my strategic plan for the details of my university system restructuring plan:

                                        • Teardrop Banners

Teardrop banners should be reserved for very special occasions, such as festivals or the opening of a new store. They should NOT be used for routine sales or just to advertise a store. They are all over Mesa right now, cluttering up sidewalks and promoting such things as check-cashing and "We Buy Gold!" Oh Please! The city is really starting to look tacky, as is Phoenix. Tempe has restricted them, and so should we in Mesa.
